What I think about SCS’ next program

Kyle Little - Steel City Strings - Concert Master

With the onset of the new year we asked Kyle Little our Concert Master his thoughts on our 2018 music program. This is what he had to say.

"I am very excited about our chamber program in 2018. I have always been a fan of string quartets some of which I think have great potential as larger chamber works. After our Music from Around the World concert in 2017, playing the string orchestra version of Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8, there was something different about this work, something a little more powerful that greatly changed my view of the work. I really wanted to replicate this in our Great Chamber Works program. So many different works to choose from, I thought back to my very first string quartet piece I ever played which was Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in A minor.

This work amazed me with its luscious harmonies, powerful string playing and its almost jovial moments in the third movement. This piece of music is definitely one that creates a connection amongst the players and I am very excited to revisit this work.

I am also happy to include a work by our patron Andrew Ford, called Sad Jigs. This almost melancholy piece of music originally written as a string quintet revisits our conception of a Jig. It is sure to put you at ease and then take you on a journey of uncertainty and self-doubt. This piece is raw emotion at its core, which you will experience in the energy of Steel City Strings.

The first program of the 2018 season is going to be very exciting and is a must see for any chamber music lover."

Thanks Kyle.  Steel City Strings first program for the year "Great Chamber Works" debuts at The Pavilion Kiama on Sunday March 18th followed by Wollongong and Berry.

Before "Great Chamber Works" come and see the World Premiere of "The Passion of Music" a documentary where acclaimed filmmaker Tony Williams draws us into the heart Steel City Strings  and reveals the interaction and the stories of the people behind the music.
