Steel City Strings Need Your Help.

In May 2020, Steel City Strings launched a $5,000 fundraising campaign ‘Isolation Strings’, to help the organisation and musicians through the COVID-19 pandemic. Fundraising efforts were matched dollar-for-dollar for donations totalling up to $5,000 thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia and the Australian Cultural Fund.

At the end of the campaign, Steel City Strings Artistic Director, Kyle Little announced that donors had donated a total of $14,966 over the course of the campaign.

‘We have been hit really hard by this unforeseen health crisis. Last year, 50% of our revenue was raised through concert ticket sales alone. Many of our musicians have lost all of their engagements for the foreseeable future.’

Kyle Little, Artistic Director.

Steel City Strings is extremely grateful for the support received during this time of no concerts and dramatically reduced revenue. The support of donors has kept the orchestra afloat and supported our musicians.

‘It’s important that Steel City Strings plays its part in the battle to keep the music going in combatting the real issues that arise for people in isolation, particularly with regards to their mental health.’

Yve Repin OAM, Manager.

Tax-deductible donations are still being received through our website here. Thank you for your support and generosity through this difficult period.

In Debussy's Sacred and Profane Dances of 1904 the orchestra was joined by harpist Paulina Smirnov whose scintillating playing created a wonderful and subtly-nuanced centrepiece for the concert.

A fascinating program of works from various musical periods... The orchestra played with a strong sense of ensemble, and brought an infectious verve to the Mozart.
