$5,000 fundraising campaign – we need your help!

In May we have launched a $5,000 fundraising campaign to help our organisation and musicians through the COVID-19 pandemic. Our fundraising efforts will be matched dollar-for-dollar for donations totalling up to $5,000 thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia.

‘We have been hit really hard by this unforeseen health crisis. Last year, 50% of our revenue was raised through concert ticket sales alone’ said Kyle Little, SCS Artistic Director. ‘Many of our musicians have lost all of their engagements for the foreseeable future.’

All funds raised will go towards Steel City String’s Isolation Strings project – an online concert that will be broadcast online in July. It will provide employment for SCS musicians and a local production company who will facilitate the technical requirements for online performance.

‘It’s important that Steel City Strings plays its part in the battle to keep the music going in combatting the real issues that arise for people in isolation, particularly with regards to their mental health’ said Mr. Little. ‘We’ve seen great efforts by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Melbourne Digital Concert Hall to keep the music going. We want to do the same for the audience our region.’

In Debussy's Sacred and Profane Dances of 1904 the orchestra was joined by harpist Paulina Smirnov whose scintillating playing created a wonderful and subtly-nuanced centrepiece for the concert.

A fascinating program of works from various musical periods... The orchestra played with a strong sense of ensemble, and brought an infectious verve to the Mozart.
